Getting around Venice
Venice is unlike any other city in the world; its streets called calli, the palaces, the canals – all is different, unique, so please let us explain how to move about in this wonderful city.
On foot
As there are no cars, the best way to get about is on foot; almost anywhere in Venice is within walking distance, since this compact city is no more than 3km across.
By gondola
The most famous Venetian boat is no longer a means of transport as it used to be, but remains one of the major tourist attractions; however, there are still several gondola ferry points (traghetti) where for just a few coins Venetians and tourists alike can be ferried across the Grand Canal.
Vaporetto Waterbus (ACTV)
Vaporetto waterbuses are the boats of the Venetian public transport system; The boats run along the Grand Canal and across the lagoon like the buses in any other city. Some ACTV lines run along the Grand Canal. Vaporetto service runs, even if less frequently, also during the night.
Alilaguna airport shuttle service
The service connects the airport to some strategic points in Venice: Murano, Lido, San Marco, Zattere.
Water taxi (motoscafo)
Undoubtedly the most comfortable and fast form of transport, but definitely also the most expensive!
Licensed water taxis have a yellow sticker with a black number on their side.
