Giacomo Casanova and his legendary escape from the prison

Venice Events - Giacomo Casanova

Giacomo Casanova, a writer, traveller, adventurer, fanciful lover, pitiless sducer and perhaps a spy... Giacomo Casanova's name was legend in XVIII century Venice.

Arrested in July 1755 and thrown into the terrible prisons of the Ducal Palace "Palazzo Ducale" (the leads), he managed to escape in November the following year, with a flight that became legend. Thus began the lengthy period of his gilded exile in the courts of Europe, which ended eighteen years later when he returned to Venice before being exiled for the very last time in 1793. He died in 1798 at the Court of Dux in Bohemia where he spent the last sad years of a life that was already a legend for his contemporaries.

Thanks to the guided tours of the secret itineraries of the Ducal Palace "Palazzo Ducale" of Venice, visitors can visit the terrible prisons of the Ducal Palace "Palazzo Ducale" and relive tha anguish and shudders of horror that young Casanova experienced.
