Venice Carnival 2008

Next year from 26 January to 5 February 2008

The most spectacular and carefree event of the year, worldwide famous with typical and non-typical masks, is ever since the most important event in Venice, with massive partecipation of Venetian and foreign people.

The program will be offered by the City of Venice and the local Office of Tourism (APT) .

The Venice Carnival has a long historical background, first documents mentioning such a great event are of more than 900 years ago, although the first official document that specifies the Carnival as public feast is in 1296. Carnival managed to survive even after the end of the great Venetian Republic and during domination of Austrians and French who disliked the great event.

Nowadays the Venice Carnival is a great media event that involves massive number of people from all over the world but yet TV networks, sponsors and cultural foundations.
