Venice and Islam 828 – 1797 – Doge’s Palace

This important exhibition explores the intense and elaborate relationship between the Serenissima Republic and the Muslim world. Paintings, glass, pottery and metal art works, as well as jewellery , textile and prints, coming from Venetian museums and prestigious European and America art institutions, illustrate in a fascinating display, divided according to themes, the artistic, commercial, knowledge-sharing and technological relations between Venice and Near Eater nations (Arab, Persian, and Turkish) over nearly a millennium.

Standing out among the over 200 works on display are several 14th to 18th century Venetian paintings masterpieces: from Bellini to Carpaccio, Veronese and Tiepolo.

The show has travelled from the New York Metropolitan Museum and is a product of a collaborationof the American museum, the Venice Civic Museums and the Institut du Monde Arabe of Paris.
