Palazzo Fortuny Gorge Barbier 1882 1932, the Birth of Art Deco
First ever exhibition dedicated to the illustrator, decorator, theatre costume and fashion designer, and famous exponent of French Art Deco. Over two hundred works, including paintings, drawings, articles, pochoir, photographs, books, manuscripts and films – coming from the rich collection of Palazzo Mocenigo (centero fo the Study of the History of Fabrics and Costumes), Musée des Arts Décoratifs of Paris, Biblitohèque Nationale de France, Musée des Beaux Arts of Nantes, and French and Italian private collections – offer mltiple aspects of the artist’s early works and continues with a section dedicated to theatre and film, offering costume designs and screenplays; then to a rich and spectacular section dedicated to fashion illustration; and to others offering most refined illustrations of albums, almanacs and books in precious limited editions.
Most intriguing, finally, is the section dedicated to advertising work. Accompanied by a display of period costumes from the Pezzato collection, the exhibition is a perfect fit for the halls of the Fortuny Museum.
