Church of Frari - Basilica of Frari Venice
The Church of the Frari is an architectural element of the former monastic complex comprising two cloisters, the cells of the Franciscan monks and rooms for meetings and prayer.
The complex dates to the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. Its Gothic forms are punctuated by wide rhythms in both a horizontal and vertical sense, and for its rich patrimony of works of art. Foremost among them are Titian’s Assumption of the Virgin and the Pesaro Madonna, Giovanni Bellini’s exquisite triptych, Donatello’s St. John the Baptist, a tryptych by Bartolomeo Vivarini, the Monument to Doge Tron by Antonio Rizzo and a statue of John the Baptist by Sansovino.
