Venice events: Campiello prize and Dialogues at San Giorgio
These are two events of distinction that add luster to Italian culture. The former, establisched in the distant 1962 by the Veneto Industrialists, is one of the top Italian literary awards. The award ceremony, where the winner out of the five candidates in the shortlist will be announced, is to take place at the Fenice Theatre (next the Saturnia hotel) on Sunday, September 10. The president of the jury is actor-director Giorgio Albertazzi.
The latter event has inherited and updated the traditional format of the Courses in High Culture and is organized by the Cini Foundation on the Island of San Giorgio, historical home to the foundation, drawing the leading schlars aof our times. The new "dialogues" examine important themes of contemporary society and are open for public partecipation. This year the program si to focus on the theme Martyrs: Testmonies of Faith, Culture of Death and New Forms of Political Action.
