Sargent and Venice

Opening 24^th March, first Exhibition in Venice dedicated entirely to John Singer Sargent, a major exponent of American Impressionism, who was born in Florence and lived for a long time in Europe. The show was conceived as a gondola trip down the Grand Canal, a place from which the artist loved to paint his subjects, across a sixty-odd “views” (oil and water-color paintings) produced in the city from 1880 to 1913: Palazzi, monuments, city squares, canals, scenes of daily life, in an impressive cross-section of Venice at that period. The show is a product of a collaboration between the Venice Civic Museums and the Adelson Galleries of New York. Ends 22^nd July.
